“Reveille” opens from the perspective of German soldiers on patrol in the Apennine mountains of central Italy. It is late 1943.

The squad returns to their camp briefly encountering American soldiers on the way. The squad meets up with another German patrol of fresh-faced young men led by a haggard old soldier. The second German squad encounters Americans, and this time fighting erupts. Some of the Germans are wounded and are forced to take cover in a nearby cave. The American soldiers hole up in the cave as well.

Within the cave, war’s brutal choices will come up against human conscience. Authority and morality will be questioned in relationship to the rules of war.

“Reveille” focuses attention on the raw drama of soldiers who are battered by moral dilemmas while enduring the traumas of war. The film makes no apologies. It blares a shattering wake-up call to the true nature of warfare and what war does to human beings.

This atypical war movie offers unbiased and realistic portrayals of the human experience in combat. Soldiers on either side of the conflict, Germans and Americans, are neither heroes nor villains, but simply struggling, limited human beings. Gone is the "good guy vs. bad guy" trope in this historically accurate depiction of the Second World War.

There are no clear winners inside the cave. Within the unforgiving landscape of warfare, no obvious solutions can be found.

In November 1943, a group of American soldiers and their wounded German prisoners are forced to confront their mutual humanity after taking cover together following a skirmish in central Italy.
